It is funny to have seen so many people working on labor day.
Me? Well I worked TWICE! No days off over at ATT Orlando-Longwood, even when there is a holiday! Sometimes I love teaching class, sometimes it is a bit trying. Yesterday was more representative of the first thought. Here are a few tips from me when first starting your MMA/BJJ training.
1. Leave your ego outside. There is always going to be someone bigger, stronger, faster, more well conditioned, and prettier than you.
2. Don't think so much, start moving and let your body take control after that.
3. If you don't pick up a move right away, try, try again. All too often people get frustrated because something didn't work right off the bat. I have a HUGE problem with patience, but I've learned that in combat sports it is futile to become frustrated....just keep trying until you get it right!
4. Things never work perfectly. If you lock in a choke and you aren't using proper technique, but still get the tap, then it worked for that situation. Doesn't mean it is always right, doesn't mean it is never wrong, just right/wrong for that situation.
5. WATCH VIDEOS! (legally of course) I know not everyone is a visual learner but I love sitting around, watching fight videos and analyzing them looking for new content that I can use. Sometimes I find things, sometimes I just find myself caught in the moment watching the beauty that is a well executed armbar/throw/combination.
until I feel like writing again.......
